Temple Shalom is a diverse and inclusive Reform congregation that has served Newton and the surrounding towns for over 60 years. Our member families include young families, interfaith, LGBTQ, empty-nesters and single adults. Our learning opportunities, social action activities and worship opportunities are as varied as our community.

Torah lishmah, or lifelong learning, is central to our values. Temple Shalom’s Nursery School begins with a toddler program for children ages 1.5 and provides education through transitional kindergarten. Our supplementary religious school officially begins at kindergarten with classes available through 12th grade. Temple Shalom also provides informal education and activities for our students with our popular youth groups. We also have a rich variety of adult education options that appeal to all learners with different backgrounds and interests.

There are also many opportunities for tikkun olam, or repairing the world. We have diverse social action initiatives ranging from rebuilding homes destroyed by Hurricane Katrina to advocacy for Israel, environmental concerns and Darfur.

Our worship schedule also provides a variety of options, including our Saturday morning minyan with food and study, our musical Shabbat Halleilu service, our Tot Shabbat service (every second Saturday at 10 a.m., excluding July and August)) and a variety of family-oriented and traditional Shabbat services.

We welcome you to join us for worship and to become a member of our Temple Shalom family.
