The Synagogue Council of Massachusetts (SCM) —  unique in that it is the only organization in North America that brings together congregations across all streams of Judaism to promote Klal Yisrael (unity and pluralism) and to support congregational leadership– will Celebrate Women’s Leadership at its Annual Tribute on Thursday, June 16, at 6:00 PM at Temple Aliyah in Needham.

Honorees Represent Several Communities and Organizations

Arinne Braverman of Needham is currently the Executive Director of Northeastern Hillel,  and previously served seven years in various leadership roles with Hillel Council of New England, and Director of the Hillels at Emerson College, Wheaton College, and the University of New Hampshire.

Carol Clingan of Newbridge, is Vice President of the Jewish Genealogical Society of Greater Boston (JGSGB) and co-chairs its Program Committee.  Prior to immersing herself and providing leadership in genealogical studies, she was a Senior Vice President for Bank of America.

Linna Ettinger of Lexington is the Assistant Director of the Early Childhood Institute at Hebrew College and Chairperson of the award winning Adult Education at Lexington’s Temple Emunah. The Adult Education program of Temple Emunah has received the GOLD Solomon Schechter Award of excellence.

Marilin Lipman of Hingham, formerly of Brookline, is Associate Director of the SCM. She has played a vital role in SCM’s Unity and Pluralism programming, from Women’s education and engagement initiatives, to promoting a welcoming stance to Jews of Color.   Before coming to SCM, Marilin had administrative and leadership positions at the Maimonides School and Berklee College of Music.

The Torch Bearers

The Tribute Celebration is a reference to the Biblical heroine, Deborah, who was a Judge, Prophet, Poet, and a Warrior.   She was an exemplar of Leadership generally, and a model of women’s leadership.  The text names her Eshet Lapidot (Judges 4:4) which can be translated as a Torch Bearer.

Musical Performance

Rabbi Jessica Kate Meyer, who has appeared in film, theater, and television throughout Europe and the US, will perform at the Torch Bearer Celebration. Rabbi Meyer pursued graduate theater in London, and has performed with numerous artists; she also had a principal role in Roman Polanski’s “The Pianist”,.  Rabbi Meyer is the Assistant Rabbi and co-musical director at New York City’s  Romemu, where people of all genders and ages participate equally and fully in song, dance, learning and praying.
