A pre-High Holiday joint program of Congregation Mishkan Tefila, Shaarei Tefillah and Temple Shalom. This fall, for the second year, the rabbis of our three Newton congregations will come together to teach on a common set of texts. Our focus will be the torah reading for the second day of Rosh Hashanah – the Akedah, the binding of Isaac. We will offer a close literary reading of the passage and then examine some of the responses – in midrash, poetry and prose – that this text has generated over time. How can the story guide us in our personal work of teshuvah/turning? What light does the text shed on contemporary events – local and global? Our evening will include time for small group discussion and refreshments will follow our learning.+ More... - Less...
