Shabbat Morning Service & Special Guest!

December 26, 2015 West Newton 0

Please join us for musical, participatory, weekly Shabbat Morning Services, beginning at 9:45am. For people of all backgrounds and levels of Jewish experience. Services are followed by a kiddush lunch. Free childcare is available. All are welcome.

During the Torah service today, we will welcome Rabbi Stephen Berkowitz, who will be speaking on “The challenges facing Progressive Judaism in France today.” Although Liberal Judaism became institutionalized in France in 1907 with the founding of the Rue Copernic synagogue, the country with Europe’s largest Jewish population has only a dozen Liberal synagogues. What are the reasons for this? Rabbi Berkowitz, ordained by the Reconstructionist Rabbinical College in 1986, is currently the visiting rabbi for the UJLS Liberal synagogue in Strasbourg, Bet Shalom of Barcelona, and the Reform Havurah of Madrid.
