In this co-taught course, we will examine the various ways in which the biblical narrative (Genesis 22) of the Binding of Isaac (The Akedah) has been understood by Jewish and Christian intellectuals, artists, and poets throughout time. In this inter-religious journey, we will explore the themes of faith, sacrifice, religious violence, and redemption. The comparative nature of the course will allow is to identify similarities and differences across Jewish and Christian traditions—ancient, medieval, and modern.
