While Jews around the world have begun counting the days of the omer, the days between Pesach and Shavot, those of us in Boston are counting down to something much sooner. This coming Thursday, April 28th, our community will be joined by the 14 active duty IDF officers from the Boston-Haifa Connection Hatikvah Soldiers Mission.
This inspiring group of officers from Haifa will be addressing audiences all over the Greater Boston area about their experiences in the military and their connections to the American Jewish community. The delegation, created in partnership with Israel’s Ministry of the Public Diplomacy and Diaspora Affairs, includes both male and female officers, as well as Ethiopian Israeli and Russian Israeli olim (recent immigrant communities).
Over the past couple of weeks, we’ve been highlighting video clips from a documentary produced after last year’s inaugural mission, and here’s one more to keep the conversation going and maybe spark a discussion with a friend or family member about the relationship between the world’s two biggest Jewish communities in Israel and in the US:
The Hatikvah Mission will be here from April 28th-May 4th, and there are multiple opportunities for you to meet and interact with the officers. Here are a few events we’d like to mention:
Thursday, April 28 – Lexington Community Welcoming Event
Friday, April 29 – Kabbalat Shabbat with Havurah on the Hill
Saturday, April 30 – Blue Party with BIG – Boston Israel Group
Sunday, May 1st – Yom HaShoah Commemoration and 15th Anniversary of the New England Holocaust Memorial from 10:30am to 12:00pm at The Holocaust Memorial on Congress St., followed by Boston 3G’s Frozen Memorial
Monday, May 2nd – Young Adult Bar Night with the Hatikvah Soldiers Mission, a young adult community event sponsored by the Boston-Haifa Young Leaders, CJP’s Young Leadership Division (YLD) and BIG – Boston Israel Group.
